In my Advertising Illustration class I had to come up with a solution for a poster advertising the “new” dinosaur exhibits at the American Museum of Natural History. I was skeptical at first about this assignment; while I love dinosaurs, I never really drew them and my style is so “cute” I wasn’t sure how the two would fit together. I’m really happy with the result though :) I’ve been experimenting a lot with layering shapes, line work, and subtle textures lately, and I think I’m heading in a direction stylistically that I like!

The template for the poster/copy was provided by my professor. I only designed the image.

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been making stuff! I’ve just been bad about sharing it, haha. Anyhow, it’s finally springtime!! My favorite season! This quarter (my first as a senior! ahhh) I’m taking a screen-printing class, and I’m excited to share the results of my first attempt! I just tried to have fun creating a pretty image. For this assignment we had to make the stencils by hand using screen filler and drawing fluid to paint directly onto the screen, and we were also not allowed to modify the inks other than color mixing (e.g. no transparency). While the prints aren’t perfect, I’m pretty pleased with how they came out, and I learned a lot. I’m so excited for the next project already—I’m having so much fun! :)

For my final in Electronic Illustration, we were supposed to create a portfolio piece that would demonstrate what Illustration market we’d like to get into. I’m very much interested in using illustration to design paper goods (stationary, journals, etc) and textiles. I love wearing patterns, especially illustrative ones, and it’s only occurred to me recently that I might be able to make a career out of it. Haha.

This is my first attempt at making a pattern…I think it looks alright! I definitely want to play with it more during Winter Break and maybe even try to create a set.

On October 12 my boyfriend Bryan and I celebrated our one year anniversary! So I decided to document it ;) He took me out a few days before to a super fancy restaurant in Savannah called The Pink House. They sat us out on The Terrace, so we got to enjoy Savannah’s beautiful fall weather during dinner :) He was very smooth and had the flowers he bought me placed on our table before we arrived as a surprise. I feel very, very lucky to be apart of this man’s life.

I always feel a little self-conscious about how much I draw myself and love-related things, but I find it very difficult NOT to when given free reign over subject matter. It’s kind of just what’s inside me at the moment!

I went to a paint-your-own-pottery place called Clay Casa today with my brother and boyfriend! It was so much fun :) I can’t wait to see it after it’s all shiny and pretty.

My dad took my P.T. Cruiser to the dealership the other day...

My dad took my P.T. Cruiser to the dealership the other day because it was making some weird sounds, and they informed us today that it will cost $4,000 to repair all of the damage they found. ): The price for repair is so high compared to the car’s actual worth at this point that we are probably going to trade it in for a new vehicle after Fall Quarter at SCAD. While I won’t deny my Cruiser was a pretty crappy car and had terrible gas mileage, I still loved it a lot for sentimental reasons…it was what I pretty much learned to drive in and what got me from Texas to Georgia on many occasions. Also, it was ridiculously bright, bright blue. And I loved that. So here’s to you, Rhett the P.T. Cruiser!

One night this past winter it was super duper ridiculous freezing, and I could barely will myself to walk across the parking lot to my dorm room. So to encourage me, Bryan started mimicking Gollum. It was awesome. If only you had been there, because he was dancing everywhere.
